With the series BEBRA CURIOSA, showing the Hessian small town as a miniature wonderland, he made his breakthrough and was called into the DFA.

In 2019, he won the GEORG KOPPMANN PRIZE for
Hamburg urban photography from the Hamburg Historical Museums Foundation and the Department of Urban Development and Housing. The project TEMPORARY VIEWS deals with the views that are created by demolition and construction pits in the short term in Hamburg – “a temporally limited spatial concept and its play of perspectives.”

This joy in perspective play characterizes the works of Axel Beyer.

1958 born in Lüneburg

1980 bis 1985 ommunications design studies at FH Hamburg with emphasis on photography.

1985 Exhibition STADTRÄUME  FH Hamburg

2010 Award for the book project BEBRA CURIOSA at the Dummy Award in Kassel.

2011 Call as member of the DFA based on the BEBRA CURIOSA series.

2019 GEORG KOPPMANN AWARD for Hamburg City Photography by the City of Hamburg.

2020 VONOVIA AWARD for Photography Shortlist with the series UNREAL ESTATE.
